Thanks to Gina at Dickensblog and Nibs at wickfield for this lovely meme. You list at random twelve favorite characters from any kind of fiction and then answer the following questions about them.
I'm only astonished I didn't do any Star Trek characters. I'm into Dickens at the momennt.
1. Jarod (The Pretender)
2. Sydney (The Pretender)
3. Eugene Wrayburn (Our Mutual Friend, Dickens)
4. Bella Wilfer (Our Mutual Friend, Dickens)
5. Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)
6. Faramir (Lord of the Rings)
7. Newman Noggs (Nicholas Nickleby, Dickens)
8. Lord Peter Wimsey (Lord Peter Wimsey mystery series, Dorothy Sayers)
9. Sydney Carton (A Tale of Two Cities, Dickens)
10. Esther Summerson (Bleak House, Dickens)
11. Elizabeth Weir (Stargate: Atlantis)
12. Samantha Carter (Stargate: SG-1)
1. Who would make a better college prof, 6 or 11? (Faramir or Elizabeth)
Both would be excellent. Faramir is a very wise man, and Elizabeth is intelligent and a good leader.
2. Do you think that 2 would win the “Cutest Guy of the Year”? (Sydney)
Probably not. But I would vote for him.
3. 12 sends 8 out on a mission. What is it? Does it succeed? (Sam Carter, Lord Peter Wimsey)
Samantha Carter is deep into a mystery involving the Goa’uld in 1930s England. Through Harriet Vane she meets Lord Peter and knows he is the best person to go up against Ba’al, in the absence of Daniel, Jack, and Teal’c. Using sheer piffle, Lord Peter ties Ba’al up in knots and has old Sugg haul him off to Bedlam. A complete success. Lord Peter then has a nervous breakdown.
4. What is or would be 9's favorite book? (Sydney Carton)
The Gospel of John
5. Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around? (Sydney, Faramir)
Oh, Sydney to Faramir. Faramir would remind him of Jarod, and he’s such a noble fellow that Sydney would be proud to obey him.
6. For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Should (s)he share a studio apartment with 9 or 10? (Eowyn, Sydney Carton, Esther Summerson)
Oh, definitely 10, Esther. Poor Eowyn doesn’t need another depressing person to make her even more suicidal. Esther is such a good, loving, sweet person she might do Eowyn a lot of good.
7. 2, 7, and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss? (Sydney, Newman Noggs, Samantha Carter)
Hahaha!
They all go to Sydney’s cabin, where Sydney makes dinner (somehow I feel that he is an excellent cook) and they talk about remarkable men they have known. Sam tells Sydney she could get Jarod sanctuary at the Alpha Site and that he would make a remarkable addition to the Stargate crew. Sydney quizzes Sam about being a strong woman and growing up with a remote father. Newman Noggs tells them all about how Nicholas is doing in his firm with Frank Cheeryble and about his and Madeline’s twenty children, and Sydney thinks Nicholas sounds very much like Jarod. Then they play Go Fish.
8. 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens? (Eugene Wrayburn, Esther Summerson)
Oh, he wouldn’t. Really he wouldn’t. Not Esther. He would treat her with gentleness and respect. Anyone would. Now, if Esther challenged Eugene to a duel, it would be because he was not behaving like a gentleman to poor Lizzie Hexam.
9. If 1 stole 8's most precious possession, how would she/he get it back? (Jarod, Lord Peter Wimsey)
Well, I don’t think Jarod would steal anything from Lord Peter. In fact, they would be very good friends. However, maybe Harriet would fall in love with Jarod instead of Peter… That would be terrible. Lord Peter would die. He would only get her back by Jarod fading out of the picture.
10. Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire. (Newman Noggs, Samantha Carter)
I can hardly even imagine a story in which they would both figure, let alone each get what they most want. Well, Newman probably wants a nice, quiet life as a gentleman, and Samantha wants the Goa’uld and the Ori to go away and for the freedom to marry Jack O’Neill. So… “A Host For The Last Tok’ra.” Just because.
11. What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together? (Jarod, Bella Wilfer)
Time travel and a chance encounter in a tight spot. Jarod would go back in time to Dickens’ era, and he’d meet Bella Wilfer in the street and have to depend on her quick wits.
12. If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along? (Newman Noggs)
I think he would make me nervous. A very sweet man, but nervous.
13. If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be? (Eugene Wrayburn)
Eugene wouldn’t be much good at anything, really. I would have him summon up the Doctor inherent within him (since they’re both played by Paul McGann), and then I’d have a lovely time watching him try to be both at the same time. Oh, that would be fun.
14. Does anyone on your friends list write or draw 11? (Elizabeth Weir)
What on Atlantis does that mean?
15. If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be? (Sydney, Bella, Eowyn)
Oh, Eowyn. She’s much more broken and fascinating than Bella. He’d want to help Bella but would be more attracted to Eowyn’s problems.
16. What might 10 shout while charging into battle? (Esther Summerson)
“Mother!”
17. If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose? (Lord Peter Wimsey)
“We Are the Lost,” a version of “In Flanders Fields” by Libera. I always think of Lord Peter when I hear that song.
18. 1, 6, and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it? (Jarod, Faramir, Sam Carter)
Faramir would be gentlemanly and give it to Sam. Sam would get annoyed and try to make Jarod eat it. Jarod…probably would.
19. What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10? (Sydney, Esther Summerson)
Hahahaha!
That’s so perfect, because Sydney would love to help Esther with her mother-longing, so all he’d have to do would be to ask her to tell him about her mother in that lovely, warm Belgian voice of his…
20. What would 5 most likely be arrested for? (Eowyn)
Abandoning the sacred duty laid on her by her king.
21. What is 6's secret? (Faramir)
He hates black and silver.
22. If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first? (Elizabeth, Sydney Carton)
Elizabeth. Sydney wouldn’t care about getting there at all, while Elizabeth would have some desperate need to get there and rescue one of her people.
23. If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 or 8? (Newman Noggs, Lord Peter Wimsey)
Oh, Peter, definitely. Newman would be no good in a dangerous situation, while Peter could lay out a baddie like nobody’s business.
24. 1 and 9 reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4's sinister secret organization. 11 volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that s/he is actually a spy for 4. Meanwhile, 4 has kidnapped 12 in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5, they seek out 3, who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic?
Jarod and Sydney Carton reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by Bella Wilfer’s sinister secret organization. Elizabeth Weir volunteers to help them but it is later discovered that she is actually a spy for Bella Wilfer. Meanwhile, Bella has kidnapped Samantha Carter in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of Eowyn, they seek out Eugene Wrayburn, who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic?
This would be a very, very funny and splendid story. It’s perfect that Jarod and Sydney Carton are teaming up, especially to save the world from a threat posed by a secret organization, and if any of my above choices had a secret organization, it would be Bella. Elizabeth Weir would only be part of it if the Replicators succeeded in turning her mind away from being a good guy, and then she would definitely be a match for Sam. But really, Sam can take care of herself, especially going up against Bella. However, I don’t think Eowyn’s advice to go to Eugene was especially wise.
The title? “Lord of Our Mutual Tale of Two Stargate Pretenders.”
